How do I connect my camera to the VIEVU smartphone app?
Turn the camera On and wait for the LED status light to change to solid blue. Connect your smartphone to the camera’s Wi-Fi Network. The Wi-Fi name will be the camera’s serial number. The default Wi-Fi password is: 1234567890. When the phone connects to the VIEVU² camera the LED status light will begin to slowly blink blue. Launch the VIEVU app to begin interacting with the camera.
How do I turn the camera On?
Press and hold the round button on the side of the camera for 2 seconds. The LED status light on top of the camera will begin blinking green. When the light changes to solid blue the camera is turned On and ready to record video or connect to a smartphone.
Do I need to have a smartphone to use the VIEVU² camera?
No. However, your experience will be heightened with the use of a smartphone. The camera will function like a traditional video camera without a smartphone. But features such as selecting a different video resolution, setting the date/time, turning the date/time stamp On/Off or being able to monitor the battery charge level and free space will not be possible.
How do I record video on the camera?
Turn the camera On. Slide the lens switch down. To stop recording, slide the lens switch up. Each start and stop will create a separate video file on the camera.
Can I record video directly on the smartphone?
Yes. With your smartphone connected to the VIEVU² camera’s Wi-Fi, open the VIEVU app. On the top right, toggle the record selector to the picture of a phone. Now simply tap the “REC” button at the bottom to begin recording directly on the smartphone. When finished tap the “Stop” button. The camera is also storing a higher quality recording internally. You can transfer the higher quality version from the camera to the smartphone with the VIEVU app.
How do I recharge the battery and how long does it take?
The VIEVU²’s battery is recharged by connecting the USB port to a power source. While being recharged, the LED light next to the USB port will be solid red. When charging is complete the light will turn green. An empty battery will take approximately 3 hours to recharge.
How do I use the VIEVU app as a camera viewfinder without recording video on the camera?
With the camera turned Off, slide the lens switch down. Then turn the camera On. The camera will now stream video to the smartphone without recording video internally. To begin recording, toggle the record selector to the picture of a camera and press the camera REC button at the bottom or slide the lens switch closed and then re-open.
How do I share a video from the smartphone?
The VIEVU app will allow you to record video directly on the phone or transfer the high quality version from the camera to the phone. Once the video is stored on the phone it can be accessed and shared like a video you recorded using your smartphone's built in camera.
How do I change the video resolution?
With your smartphone connected to the VIEVU² camera’s Wi-Fi, open the VIEVU app. Tap on the VIEVU logo on the upper-left of the main screen and select the desired resolution from the Video Resolution menu.
How long does the battery last?
The battery inside the VIEVU² camera can record/stream for 1.5 hours at 1080 resolution. It can record/stream for over 2 hours at 720 or 640 resolutions. The camera can remain idle for up to 3 hours. The battery cannot be replaced. However, the VIEVU² camera is compatible with many universal battery packs. Simply connect the camera to a battery pack to extend your battery life.
Can I turn Wi-Fi Off to extend my battery life?
No. However, we are working on a firmware update that will be released in the future that will allow you to disable the Wi-Fi.
How much video can I store on the internal memory?
The VIEVU² camera includes 16GB of internal memory. It can store approximately 2.75 hours of video at 1080, 5.75 hours at 720 and 11 hours at 640 resolution. The memory is not removable.
Why can’t I remove the battery or memory card?
In order to make the camera as rugged and small as possible these components were sealed inside the camera. VIEVU has a Battery Replacement Program to exchange the battery if it no longer holds an adequate charge.
How do I know how much battery or internal memory is left on the camera?
The battery charge level and free space on the camera can be monitored with the VIEVU app on a smartphone. Simply connect your smartphone to the VIEVU² camera, launch the VIEVU app, tap on the VIEVU logo on the upper-left of the main screen and you will find the battery gauge and free space counter at the top.
Can I receive phone calls while connected to the VIEVU² camera?
Yes. The smartphone's ability to make and receive calls and text messages is not affected while connected to the camera. If a call comes in while the phone is connected, the camera will continue to operate during this time. When finished return to the VIEVU app to continue where you left off.
Does my smartphone have a 3G/4G data connection while connected to the camera?
No. Due to limitations of smartphone operating systems we cannot maintain a connection to the cellular data network (3G/4G) and a Wi-Fi connection to the VIEVU² camera. In order to access the internet or other data sources you must first disconnect from the VIEVU² camera. We will continue searching for a solution and will release an update if it becomes possible in the future.
How do I update the date/time on the camera?
By default the VIEVU app will automatically update the date and time on the VIEVU² camera each time it connects. If you wish to manually set the date/time, connect your smartphone to the VIEVU² camera and launch the VIEVU app. Tap on the VIEVU logo on the upper-left of the main screen and click “Settings”. Scroll down to the bottom and tap on the “Date” or “Time” box. Input the correct Date/Time and tap “Done”.
How do I change the Camera’s Wi-Fi password?

Can the VIEVU² camera connect to multiple smartphones?
No. The VIEVU² camera can only be connected to 1 smartphone at a time. If a second smartphone connects it will disconnect from the previously connected smartphone.
How far does the VIEVU² camera stream video?
The video streaming ability of the camera is affected by many things such as objects between the camera and the smartphone (like walls/floors or your body), the strength of the smartphones’ Wi-Fi antenna, the battery life of the smartphone and the camera (Wi-Fi transmission strength may be reduced when low on battery power to increase the battery life) and the number of Wi-Fi networks in the area that create interference. The camera is designed to stream reliably within 10 feet, but under the right conditions can stream for 20 or even 30 feet.
How rugged is the VIEVU² camera?
The VIEVU² is designed to be highly rugged but also small and easy to wear and use. The camera is made from military grade billet aluminum. It uses a special anodizing coating that is scratch resistant. Also, the camera is waterproof (IPX5) to withstand the harshest of conditions like rain, snow, sleet or hail, but it is not submersible in water.
Can I go diving with the VIEVU² camera?
The VIEVU² is waterproof (IPX5) to withstand the harshest of conditions like rain, snow, sleet or hail, but it cannot be submerged in water.
The camera stopped responding and is frozen.
If the camera fails to function correctly press and hold the reset button located on the back of the camera for 1 second. Pressing this button will not erase anything stored on the camera. If this fails to correct the problem, Contact Us for assistance.
Video is not playable after download from the camera on my Android smartphone.
Android does not natively support the recording format of the VIEVU² camera. We are working on a firmware update to correct this compatibility problem. Until then, we recommend the installation of a free video player app on your phone such as MX Player or Mobo Player.
Does the VIEVU² camera work with VERIPATROL?
The VIEVU² camera is not supported by our secure law-enforcement VERIPATROL software. Cameras that are compatible with VERIPATROL have a model prefix of “LE”.
